Sebelumnya Canon merilis kamera DSLR Canon EOS SL1 yang sekaligus menjadi kamera DSLR terkecil dan teringan di dunia untuk berkompetisi dengan kamera mirrorless di pasar global kamera konsumer. Kali ini Canon juga merilis kamera DSLR Canon EOS 700D/T5i yang akan mengupdate versi terdahulunya, Canon DSLR EOS 650D/T4i yang masih belum berumur 1 tahun, sejak tanggal perilisannya.


Perilisan kamera DSLR EOS 700D ini cukup mengejutkan banyak pihak, karena pihak Canon dengan begitu saja melakukan update pada kamera DSLR Canon EOS 650D yang baru saja memasuki bulan ke-9 dari bulan perilisannya. Bahkan pada update kali ini, hampir tidak ada perubahan spesifikasi antara Canon EOS 700D dengan 650D, perbedaannya lebih terletak pada penambahan fitur-fitur kreatif yang ada di dalam kamera dan dukungan penggunaan lensa STM.
